Is Your Birthmark Dangerous?

Signs to Look For
When it comes to skin cancer, moles are usually more of a threat than birthmarks. However, because birthmarks either have more pigmentation or not enough pigmentation, it can make them more prone to getting sunburned which may increase the likelihood that they will turn into cancer. Birthmarks that exhibit any of the following signs should be checked by our office immediately:
- Larger than six millimeters.
- Itches or bleeds.
- Rapidly changes in color, size or shape.
- Has multiple colors.
- Is located where it can’t be easily monitored, such as on the scalp
How to Remove It
If we are suspicious of your birthmark being cancerous or if you simply want to have it removed for cosmetic reasons, then the first thing that you should do is come into our office for a consultation. During your consultation, we will be able to determine what kind of treatment your birthmark is most likely to respond to. Treatments include:
- Microdermabrasion
- IPL
- Laser
- Surgical excision
