How to Recover from Microdermabrasion
- Posted on: Jul 30 2018
Taking good care of your skin starts at home with the skincare products you use. And although high-quality skin care can go a long way, we at Callender Cosmetic and Dermatology also encourage our patients to get regular skin care treatments done like facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion is especially popular amongst patients of all ages because it can be used to treat a variety of skincare concerns including light scarring, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and stretch marks. By using a minimally abrasive instrument, microdermabrasion works to target the top few layers of the skin which encourages the growth of new, healthy skin cells. But once you are sent home from microdermabrasion, how can you recover?
Avoid Makeup
Although microdermabrasion is often referred to as the lunchtime facial because it can be done so quickly, we encourage our patients to wait a day or two to wear makeup. Why exactly? Because it will give your skin plenty of time to heal and breathe without anything on it. So, as long as you feel comfortable being seen in public without makeup, you are good to continue with your regular work and personal routine.
Wear a Moisturizer
One thing that many patients experience after microdermabrasion is peeling skin. And although peeling skin is a great indicator that your microdermabrasion is in fact working, it can also leave your skin feeling a bit raw. As your skin heels, make sure to lather on the moisturizer both morning and night.
Avoid the Sun
If you absolutely have to go outside in the sun, then make sure you wear a thick layer of sunscreen. If, however, you don’t need to be outside, then we encourage you to do so. Because microdermabrasion can make your skin extra sensitive, it can also make you more susceptible to burning afterward.
